Watch the video
It's hard to believe it's been a year since I shot this video; so much has happened since that night both in regards to my life and the incident itself.
In regards to the incident itself, the first repercussions from this footage surfaced when I discovered that various outlets in the mainstream media had been using my footage from this particular protest without my permission; this actually turned out all right: I sent them a bill for the use of my footage, and they mostly all complied.
The next event that transpired has not turned out so fortuitous: a few days after the protest, I received a visit from the FBI along with two SFPD investigators. They asked for the unedited footage and I told them I would not be able to provide them with the footage at that point in time. A few months later, they returned with a subpoena ordering me to appear in front of the Federal Grand Jury and provide the tape. I have documented this situation at length on my blog and created a resource library with everything publicly available in regards to this matter.
And, I suppose it's only fitting that I found out today, 1 year from the very same evening that this all went down, that I will have to appear in front of Federal court on Thursday, July 20th for a hearing on civil contempt charges against me.
Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

Josh, I'll be there for ya! If all goes well, I'll be there to celebrate with you (though perhaps a tad delayed as I'd have a 3.5 hour drive to you). If things don't go well, I'll still be there for ya. If you can't count on your ex wife, then who?

Don't let the door hit you in the ass. Anyone who tapes someone doing something illegal should turn in the evidence. You are no friend of the people, you are self serving. I hope you come to your senses or pay the price with jail time.

I am sure the footage would have been released if, for example it showed a police officer fracturing someones skull, but because it was a police officer getting hit and some punk lighting a police car on fire its ok. This city and its so called radicals are just looking for something to do. They would protest the opening of a door if someone told them to. Pathetic. Mr. Wolf, enjoy incarceration.

Anarchist are infantile revolutionaries who contribute NOTHING to movements for radical/social change in this country. In fact they damage said movements by creating scenarios through their violence in which the police and other representatives of capitalism can descend upon demonstrations and mete our brutality and repression. How precisely does setting a police car aflame or attacking a patrolperson qualify as revolutionary activity? The black bloc and other similar groupings should be banned from demonstrations since they are simply provacateurs for the state; indeed, many of them have ties to the f.b.i. and homeland security.
Read Marx and Lenin!!!

Josh, I support you right to free speech, freedom of the press and I respect and endorse your choice to go to jail and not the release the tapes. However, the people that you are protecting are clueless, hypocritical scum. They would never give anything to protect you, and just want to protest for the sake of creating a distraction from their pathetically mediocre lives.

Well, anonymous, I'm sorry that you feel that way but quite frankly, I find you decidedly hypocritical yourself. First of all, if you really respected his first ammendment rights, why would you, under the argument that we are worthless scum that are not worth his time, encourage him to hand over this footage to the criminal government, which asks him to give up his first ammendment rights?

It seems like you are rather clueless; clueless about the ideals of freedom, not to mention the American constitution.

And to the rest of you "smart people" who think you know so much better then anarchists, why don't you actually take a look at what the police do at every protest we get to? They obstruct our freedom of speech. Its not something you will read about in the corporate media, of course, but they do. I have seen so many people beaten and arrested for absolutely no reason that can I really blame these anarchists for their actions? I cannot.

One day, we will gain our courage to protect ourselves. And even then, we will be scorned as terrorists and violent agitators but I don't care. I know the truth.

The only people who are clueless, are all the people here who claim to know everything but indeed know nothing.

Can any of you now honestly claim that I am "clueless"?

Brother,

I hope you are surviving in jail. I am sorry that you are being made to suffer for the failures of our society.

I truly admire and respect you for holding on to your principles. I hope you know that.

I am sorry we cannot help you anymore than praying for you. If there is ever anything you need, send out the message, and people will hear you and try to help.

Thank you,
Brother

mr. wolf -- you may be a hero to some people, but is achieving hero status in some their eyes worth your precious time in a jail? life is so short.

there are other more thoughtful and compelling ways to achieve your goals and make society a better place. turn over the tapes and plan your next move.

no one's telling you not to be an activist or anarchist.

your video has given voice to many. continue on that path. jail will not bring you benefit.

peace

It would be a bit nicer if you wrote a short parenthetical intro at the top of the this blog post inviting people to check out the new blog – with its updated information – rather than forcing a redirect. Journalistically speaking, the SFGate.com (and others media outlets) posted a link to this entry for a reason, so people could actually view the originating source for the story.

If nothing else think of it this way: Would you stay inside a store if the manager silently ushered you from one department to the next? Or would you rather the store manager give you a choice by offering you access to a new department you may be interested in visiting, whether you visit it or not?
