We all Live in a Fascist State, A Fascist State...

Just got an e-mail about a new bill making it's way through Congress right now, H.R. 1528. According to Downsize DC:
Congressman Sensenbrenner's (R-Wis.) draconian mandatory minimum sentencing bill will have serious consequences for our democracy, requiring you to spy on all your neighbors, including going undercover and wearing a wire if needed. Refusing to become a spy for the government would be punishable by a mandatory prison sentence of at least two years.

If you "witness" certain drug offenses taking place or "learn" that they took place you would have to report the offense to law enforcement within 24 hours and provide "full assistance" in the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the people involved. Failure to do so would be a crime punishable by a mandatory two year prison sentence.

While I'm pretty sure this law is unconstitutional for any number of reasons, and will probably be overturned immediately -- I find the mere suggestion of this law to be a very scary indicator of our political climate. I think that our political readers sat down one day to read 1984 and finished the book with dreams of Oceania and it's world of crimethink.

Sometimes I feel like I must be crazy, because if I'm sane then you have to be nuts not to be scared as shit about what's going on right now and so many people don't seem the least bit concerned...

The frightening thing to me is that we actually have people of this mindset in our government. They are whittling away at our freedoms, incorporating their righteous views and beliefs into all levels of law and government. The very things the pilgrims fled England for in the 17th century are happening again right here right now. Problem is either the people are so stupid that they don't see what is happening or they are so damn passive that they don't care. We should be outraged as a country but nothing is happening. We should be on the verge of revolution. Where the hell is everyone?

there was a film made called trading places in which two rich men made a one dollar bet, and in doing so ruined one man's career.

could a group of bored old men reenact orwell's 1984? I don't see why they couldn't try.

does life imitate art? you better believe it does..

they just keep pushing .. on multiple issues .. dividing those of us paying attention into small enough factions to ignore.

We will rally opposition to this bill and kill it.. BUT a year from now they'll just slip it into the fine, unread, print of some completly unrelated bill and .. Ta Dah! Instant cheap labor force filling all those privatized, new prison beds.

WOw! I am just reading about this now, thanks for posting about it. I also feel like I must be crazy sometimes, because I can see so clearly how f'd up our current "regime" is and yet, hardly anyone else seems to notice. In fact, many people seem to be more than willing to have their rights trampled on and taken away. I just don't get it.

Perhaps it has something to do with all this rampant psuedo Christianity out there? I have nothing against REAL Christians, but everything against these people that want to take over our govt. and kill in Jesus' name. It just makes my skin crawl.
